FAQ
Why are different rivets used on different leads?
While both Chicago screws and double-ended rivets can secure components on a leash, Chicago screws offer several advantages over double-ended rivets. The threaded design of Chicago screws allows for a much tighter connection compared to the single point of contact with a double-cap rivet. This translates to superior holding power under the higher tension experienced during leash corrections, energetic walks, or sudden movements from your pup. Essentially, Chicago screws act like tiny bolts, providing a more secure and reliable connection for demanding training scenarios. For ultimate peace of mind during training, HeelHound long lines utilize Chicago screws secured with a special threadlock. This high-performance adhesive acts like a microscopic locking mechanism, preventing the Chicago screws from loosening even under the dynamic forces and vibrations experienced during leash corrections and energetic walks with your furry friend. This extra layer of security ensures a rock-solid connection, allowing you to focus on training your pup with confidence.
HeelHound house lines utilize double-cap rivets for a specific reason: they prioritize control and comfort within the home environment. Unlike long lines used for training walks, house lines focus on keeping your pup safe and contained indoors or in your garden. Double-cap rivets offer a secure hold for gentle guidance and everyday maneuvering around the house, without being overkill for the lower tension typically experienced on a house line. But the benefits go beyond security. The smooth, finished surface of double-cap rivets ensures a comfortable grip for both you and your furry friend during constant use around the house. Plus, their clean and finished look adds a touch of style to your indoor training routine. So, while they might not be the burliest rivets around, they're perfectly suited for the calmer, close-quarters control a house line provides.
Why does my lead have bulges on either side of the rivets?
You might notice a bulge on either side of the rivets on your dog leash. This bulge isn't about aesthetics; it's a deliberate design choice prioritizing functionality for your walks. Here's why:
1) Minimizing Weakness: Let's face it, putting a rivet in requires creating a hole, which can weaken the leash material. To address this, we strategically make the hole just large enough for the rivet to pass through which when the rivet is placed forces the material out.
2) Strength Through Snugness: The real magic happens during the riveting process. The rivet is expertly tightened, creating a snug fit around the webbing. This snugness isn't just for security; as a result of the tight fit, the material around the rivet gets compressed, causing it to push out and form the bulge you see.
In short, the bulge on your dog leash is a result of prioritizing both strength and a comfortable walking experience over aesthetics.

Why is there no vegan leather option?
We understand the growing interest in vegan alternatives ( also know as faux leather) and are actively exploring options. However, many vegan leathers involve heavy processing, plastics, or chemicals, and plant-based options are often too soft or thin for the durability needed in our dog products.
We use vegetable-tanned leather as it’s a by-product of the meat industry, avoiding waste while relying on natural tannins instead of harmful chemicals. This makes it durable, biodegradable, and more sustainable than synthetic alternatives.
We are also exploring other materials and designs to expand our range while staying committed to quality, durability, and sustainability.
We remain committed to finding truly eco-friendly materials for the future.
